Practical driving test
Your driving test will start with an eyesight check and some vehicle safety questions. You will then start your practical driving test that will include some specific manoeuvres.
The practical driving test is the third and final part to earning your full license. This is where all of the practical skills that you have learned in your driving lessons will come in handy. Observed by an examiner, you will be expected to demonstrate both competent and safe driving techniques and ensure that you can deal with various driving conditions. You will also be required to make an emergency stop, complete two out of the three reversing manoeuvres as practiced with your instructor and answer two questions about vehicle safety checks in the form of a ‘show and tell’. In other words, in the first’s instance you will be expected to demonstrate a safety check and in the second simply describe the procedure.
All candidates are given 40 minutes to complete the test and must do so without any serious faults and no more than 15 minor errors in order to pass. Weekday tests are currently £56.50 and evening and weekend tests are £67.00. In the unfortunate event that you fail your practical test, you only need to retake the practical exam again.

The driving part of your test will last about 40 minutes. Throughout the test your examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving, including when you are carrying out the set exercises. You can make up to 15 driving faults and still pass the test (16 or more results in failure). However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test.
The driving test is straightforward and has been designed to see if you:
Can drive safely
Know The Highway Code and can demonstrate this through your driving

What happens during the test?
During the driving test the examiner will give you directions which you should follow. Test routes are designed to be as uniform as possible and will include a range of typical road and traffic conditions. During the test, the examiner will ask you to carry out set exercises.
Throughout the test you should drive in the manner in which your instructor has taught you. If you make a mistake, don't worry about it, it might be a less serious driving fault and may not affect your result. The examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving.
